Vizquel a day late to Rangers camp
Veteran missed Thursday, thinking first workout was Friday
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Omar Vizquel was absent from the first full-squad workout of the spring on Thursday.Vizquel thought the first workout was on Friday and called to tell the Rangers he would be here.
"I'm not going to question him on that," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "He's certainly concerned because he doesn't want anybody to think ill of him."Vizquel is a 20-year veteran, but he has reason to be confused. The first full-squad workout was just four days after the first workout for pitchers and catchers. "It is shorter," Washington said. "Usually there is a week between the two." Minor League infielder Jose Vallejo is also expected by Friday. He had trouble getting his wife's visa and then had a flight diverted from the Dominican Republic by a storm.
