Guerrero a year older than listed
Online report says Angels slugger actually born in 1975
Angels superstar Vladimir Guerrero reportedly has revealed that he was actually born in 1975, a year earlier than previously noted in his biographical information during his career, making him 34 now instead of 33.According to a report on Yahoo! Sports, Guerrero told Angels officals that he was born a year earlier than he'd claimed previously. The report said Guerrero's actual birthdate is Feb. 9, 1975, not 1976 as reported in the Angels media guide and therefore other media sources. The report said that Guerrero made a reference to his age in an interview previous to the revelation about how he feels following knee surgery, saying "I feel good. I can't say [like] 25, because, you know, I'm 34. But I feel a lot better. That's where I'm at right now." Guerrero was not immediately available for comment. The report cited a club official, noting that the change will be made in future references to his birthdate. Guerrero was signed by the Montreal Expos in March 1993, when he was thought to be 17. He debuted with the Expos in 1996, came to the Angels as a free agent in 2004 and is an eight-time All-Star Game participant as a power-hitting right fielder, winning the Home Run Derby in 2007. Several other players from the Dominican Republic have admitted to age discrepancies in recent years, including Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada, who admitted to being 19 and not 17 when signed by the A's in 1993.
