Sheets, who is recovering from surgery on his right elbow, is doing his rehabilitation work at TMI Sports Medicine in Arlington, which is owned and operated by Rangers team doctor Keith Meister. The club remains interested in Sheets as a possible option when he recovers from the surgery, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday, but did not advise the pitcher to work with Meister.

The club does not have a deal in place with the starter.

"There's not a connection there," Daniels said. "I think he lives in Dallas and our club is there. He could have chosen to rehab anywhere he wanted to."

The Rangers came close to signing the right-handed pitcher and agreed on a preliminary two-year deal, but it fell through when it was determined Sheets was going to need the surgery.
