Red Sox freeze concession prices
'Fenway Family Hour' introduced as part of savings package
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- In recognition of challenging economic times, the Red Sox announced on Thursday that all menu items available at Fenway Park last year will be held at the same prices for the 2009 season. It marks the first time concession prices at Fenway have not increased since 2002.
In conjunction with that announcement, the Sox also revealed a series of initiatives that will give fans new and discounted opportunities for all home games. It will begin with Opening Day on April 6 with the launch of "Fenway Family Hour", which will be available throughout the month, featuring discounted concessions and souvenirs and other entertainment. The family hour will occur the first hour after the gates open.
"Our goal has always been to provide value and quality service to our fans every time they enter Fenway Park. This year, we worked together with ARAMARK to find more creative and pocketbook-friendly ways to enhance the fan experience," Red Sox president/CEO Larry Lucchino said in a statement. "Thanks to partners like ARAMARK, we can offer initiatives like 'Fenway Family Hour' and a concession price freeze. Our hope is to create opportunities for as many families as possible to enjoy coming to Red Sox games this season."
Earlier in the offseason, the Red Sox revealed that ticket prices at Fenway were staying at their 2008 levels.
Fenway Family Hour will include nine popular food items at a discount of 50 percent. That starting nine includes: Fenway Franks, pizza slices, pretzels, popcorn, cotton candy, fruit cups, veggie cups, bags of burgers (3 sliders), and Hoodsie ice cream cups.
"We recognize the important role food plays in the Red Sox gameday experience and the importance of offering innovative and value-packed menu options," said Rich Roper, the regional vice president of ARAMARK Sports, Entertainment and Conventions. "By working closely with the Red Sox to create the Fenway Family Hour, we're able to offer a dining experience that ensures fans, and especially families, continue to enjoy their time at Fenway Park."
The discount during family hour will be at all concession locations throughout the ballpark with no limit on the number of items purchased. During the family hour, there will also be merchandise at the Red Sox Team Store on Yawkey Way available at a "substantial discount".
There will also be opportunities for fans to interact with players or coaches in photo sessions that will take place after Red Sox batting practice for a half hour. That event will begin during the second homestand and continue through the season. Individual session dates will be announced prior to each homestand.
