Veteran first baseman/outfielder Daryle Ward signed a Minor League contract with the White Sox over the weekend, reported to Triple-A Charlotte, and went 2-for-4 with a home run in his first game on Sunday.

Ward, 33, was playing for the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League, and went 6-for-27 with two RBIs in eight games before signing with the White Sox. He is the son of Charlotte batting coach Gary Ward.

Daryle Ward is an 11-year Major League veteran who spent parts of the past two seasons with the Cubs. He has a .263 career batting average with 90 home runs in 948 at-bats compiled with the Astros, Dodgers, Pirates, Nationals, Braves and Cubs. His best season was 2005, when he hit .260 with 12 homers and 63 RBIs in 133 games for Pittsburgh.

The Knights beat Syracuse, 10-7, on Sunday.
