Gonzalez exits Marlins game with injury

Shortstop leaves after 10th inning with strained left oblique

05/04/09 11:32 PM ET

MIAMI -- Reds shortstop Alex Gonzalez had to leave the Marlins game Monday night after the 10th inning with a strained left oblique.

Gonzalez is scheduled to return to Cincinnati Tuesday to be evaluated by Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek.

Gonzalez had worked his way back into a starting job after missing the 2008 season because of left knee surgery. He had made recent progress in his hitting, but went 0-for-4 in Monday night's game, lowering his batting average to .176.

Paul Janish replaced him at shortstop and is likely to start Tuesday night's game.
