Angels option Wood, recall Willits
Scioscia wants infielder to get more at-bats in Triple-A
OAKLAND -- The Angels optioned infielder Brandon Wood to Triple-A Salt Lake following their 5-3 victory over the Athletics on Tuesday night.
Wood has appeared in three games since his callup on April 20. Angels manager Mike Scioscia indicated the young slugger needed at-bats with the Bees.
The Angels recalled outfielder Reggie Willits from Salt Lake to replace Wood and to deepen their bench.
"Some of the outfielders are a little nicked up," Scioscia said. "He brings an element late in the game as a pinch-runner. Reggie can bring situational things that I think will be important to us."
Willits' lone big league appearance this year was as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning of a 5-4 loss to the Red Sox on April 11. He's a career .273 hitter with no homers and 43 RBIs.
