McNamee has little to say about Clemens

Says laywers are 'taking care' of lawsuit against Rocket

05/14/09 5:25 AM ET

A day after Roger Clemens appeared on ESPN's "Mike and Mike" show to deny steroid use and denounce a book about him, his former personal trainer made a public appearance at a sports nutrition store.

Drug Policy in Baseball

Appearing at the American Nutrition Center (ANC) in Everett, Mass., Brian McNamee commented very briefly on the fact that he is countersuing Clemens, the former All-Star pitcher who is under federal investigation for lying to members of the United States Congress, according to the New York Daily News.

"I got the greatest lawyers in the world, and they're taking care of it," McNamee said, according to the News. "They're doing it the right way. Other than that I have no comment."

The book, entitled, "American Icon: The Fall of Rogers Clemens and the Rise of Steroids in America's Pastime," was written by four investigative reporters from the same newspaper -- Teri Thompson, Nathaniel Vinton, Michael O'Keeffe and Christian Red -- who have been reporting on Clemens for several years.

The book contains detailed information about Clemens' relationship with McNamee, his alleged involvement with steroids and human growth hormone, his questioned testimony before Congress and even his romantic life.

Clemens on Tuesday spoke publicly for the first time in over a year and said McNamee lied when he said he injected Clemens with steroids and HGH between 1998 and 2001.

McNamee appeared at ANC with Mai Tran, a workout partner, friend and interviewer for an ANC-based Web site.

The store's owner, Steve Cardillo, who befriended Clemens and McNamee in the past, told the News that "I personally feel the whole situation is sad.

"I've never seen anyone train as hard as Roger. And Brian is the best trainer I've ever met."
