Driver of car charged with three counts of murder

The man accused of killing Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in an April car accident was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday.Orange County (Calif.) prosecutors told The Associated Press that Andrew Gallo, 22, was indicted on three counts of murder and three other felonies for the April 9 crash. Police said Gallo had almost three times the legal blood-alcohol limit when he ran a red light in a minivan and crashed into a car carrying Adenhart, 25-year-old Henry Pearson, 20-year-old Courtney Stewart and 24-year-old Jon Wilhite.

Prosecutors told the AP that the indictment of Gallo will force a preliminary hearing to be skipped and thus speed up the case.
Adenhart died in surgery at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center hours after pitching six scoreless innings against the Oakland A's in his season debut. Pearson and Stewart were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to police. Wilhite survived the crash and is undergoing speech, physical and occupational therapy at a rehabilitation center in Southern California.
