Martinez dislocates pinky
Shortstop exits Mets' game after fifth-inning slide
PITTSBURGH -- Understudy shortstop Ramon Martinez was removed from the Mets' 3-1 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday night at PNC Park after the fifth inning, when he suffered a dislocated left pinky on an awkward, but successful slide into the plate. Martinez's scored on a sacrifice fly by Luis Castillo. His slide was part tumble. He seemed to touches the plate with his right toe as he slid past catcher Jason Jaramillo.
The Mets said Martinez will be examined in New York on Wednesday. He left the ballpark with his finger in a splint.
Either he or Wilson Valdez will be removed from the roster when Jose Reyes returns, probably on Friday.
