Congress to review Sosa's 2005 testimony

Former Major League slugger Sammy Sosa's well-publicized March 2005 denial of performance-enhancing drug use will be looked into by a congressional committee, according to The Associated Press.

A day after a New York Times report cited sources as saying Sosa was one of the 104 players who allegedly tested positive for illegal PEDs in 2003, Congressman Edolphus Towns (Dem., N.Y.), the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, released a statement Wednesday that the AP wrote, "says that the committee takes seriously suggestions that a witness had been misleading."

Towns added, according to the AP, that, "he will determine the appropriate steps following a review of the matter."

Sosa, appearing before congressional leaders in 2005, said he had never taken illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
