Aquino designated for assignment

Indians make room on roster to recall left-hander Gosling

06/19/09 9:50 AM ET

The Indians designated veteran right-handed reliever Greg Aquino for assignment on Friday, creating a roster spot for left-hander Mike Gosling, recalled from Triple-A Columbus.

The Indians signed Gosling on June 5, a few days following his release by the Twins. The 28-year-old had been 7-1 with a 4.37 ERA in 21 appearances at Triple-A Rochester prior to his release by Minnesota. Then, in eight innings at Columbus, he allowed one run in eight innings, in which he struck out eight.

Gosling last appeared in the Majors in 2007 with the Reds, going 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 23 appearances. His big league career consists of 43 games, including nine starts.

Aquino went 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in his 10 appearances with Cleveland this season.
