Buck to be called up from Sacramento

Outfielder, batting .235, to be in uniform during series opener

06/29/09 7:07 PM ET

OAKLAND -- MLB.com has learned that outfielder Travis Buck will called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday and be in uniform at some point during the opener of a three-game series against the visiting Tigers.

A source at Triple-A Sacramento has confirmed the move and The A's officially announced the move about 45 minutes before the scheduled first pitch of Monday's game.

Buck, who was activated from the Major League 15-day disabled list and optioned to Sacramento on June 14, batted .350 with two home runs, six doubles, eight RBIs and a .423 on-base percentage in 17 games with the River Cats.

After missing two games while with Oakland as the result of a strained oblique muscle, Buck went 3-for-4 with a home run in the first game of a doubleheader at Texas on May 29, but he felt a twinge in his side during the game and suggested to the coaching staff that it might be wise for him to skip the second game.

Despite insisting that he was fine to continue playing, Buck, 25, was placed on the DL the following day.

Batting .235 with three homers, nine RBIs and a .301 on-base percentage with the A's, Buck was scheduled to fly from Las Vegas to Oakland late Monday afternoon and arrive at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum during the game.

According to the Sacramento source, the A's will option third baseman Jack Hannahan to Sacramento to make room on the active roster for Buck. Hannahan is batting .193 with one homer, eight RBIs and a .278 OBP in 52 games with Oakland.
