Madson endures rough night in Atlanta

Phils reliever made number of mistakes in 10-inning loss

07/01/09 7:40 PM ET

ATLANTA -- Ryan Madson couldn't believe everything that went wrong Tuesday at Turner Field.

First, he picked up his glove in the bullpen to warm up for the eighth inning, only to learn it was not his game glove. It was his practice glove. Second, he issued a two-out walk to Gregor Blanco. Third, his throwing error to first moved Blanco to second. It was the first error in Madson's seven-year career.

Then he allowed a double to Martin Prado to score Blanco to tie the game.

"All those things had to happen [Tuesday] for me to [mess] it up," Madson said. "If I don't make those mistakes tonight, I should be all right."

But Madson is 0-2 with a 9.53 ERA and three blown saves in his past six appearances. He has allowed nine hits, six runs and seven walks in 5 2/3 innings.

"It's just command," Madson said. "That's it, really. Even the outs I've been getting lately, all the pitches are up and I'm getting away with a lot of [stuff]. It's just one of those things. I'm trying to clean it up a little."
