A's ink three Venezuelan prospects

Teens will be assigned to Dominican training complex

07/02/09 1:15 PM ET

The Athletics agreed to terms with three 16-year-old prospects from Venezuela on Thursday.

The team signed infielders Wilfredo Solano and Wilman "Junior" Martinez, as well as outfielder Alfred Sosa in the first day of Major League Baseball's international player signing period. Solano, from Caracas, is a switch-hitting shortstop. Martinez, a third baseman, and Sosa are right-handed-hitting Valencia products.

The three players, all listed at 6-foot-1, are not eligible to play in the Dominican Summer League but are scheduled to work out in La Victoria -- the A's training complex in the Dominican Republic -- once they sign with the club this week.
