CHICAGO -- There are traditions, there are White Sox traditions, and now there are White Sox fan traditions. The White Sox announced the launch of a new Web site, Whitesox.com/traditions, a user-generated page in which fans of the team can upload videos of their own White Sox traditions, customs or superstitions.
The Web site branches out from the White Sox 2009 advertising campaign: "There are traditions. And there are White Sox traditions." Pieces of that campaign have focused on player traditions, groundskeeper traditions and other creative traditions.
White Sox director of advertising Jessica Priego said the Web site was designed to allow fans a space to highlight their traditions and share them with other White Sox fans.
"Those traditions range from what they eat at the ballpark every single game, inning by inning, to the music that they listen to on the way to the ballpark," Priego said.
For the site's launch, Priego said videos would be posted from Sox Fest in January to give people an idea of what to expect. In those videos, fans talk directly into the camera about their personal traditions.
Down the road, Priego said she hopes the site will add even more user functionality, which could include ranking favorite traditions with a star ratings system.
"We just want fans to have a good time on our Web site," Priego said. "We figured it was a good time because people will be out celebrating their own traditions with their family and friends, and maybe they'll have a camera around with them to film."
