A's designate Eveland for assignment
Left-hander will be optioned to Triple-A if he clears waivers
The A's designated pitcher Dana Eveland for assignment, for the purpose of securing option waivers, following Tuesday night's 5-2 loss in Boston.
Eveland remains on the A's 40-man roster and will be optioned to Triple-A Sacramento if he clears waivers. A corresponding roster move will be announced on Wednesday.
The left-hander was recalled by Oakland on Monday and allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings in the spot start for Dallas Braden, who was placed on the bereavement list on Monday.
Eveland is 1-3 with an 8.00 ERA in seven games during two stints with the A's this year. He went 7-1 with a 3.49 ERA in 12 starts with Sacramento.
