ANAHEIM -- The revolving door to the Angels' clubhouse brought another new, yet familiar, face into manager Mike Scioscia's house on Friday night.Bobby Mosebach, a hard-throwing right-hander wearing No. 60, is the newest member of Scioscia's bullpen.
Bidding farewell was outfielder Terry Evans, who was serving as outfield support for two days. Evans rejoins his old buddies at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he was batting .290 with 19 homers and 66 RBIs. Evans did not get into a game with the Angels.
Mosebach, who began his professional career in 2005 as a starting pitcher and has been converted into a reliever, was taken by the Phillies in the winter Rule 5 Draft for $50,000.
The Angels accepted him back for $25,000. He has been pitching effectively at Salt Lake with a 2-1 record and 2.78 ERA in 17 appearances, striking out 15 hitters and walking 10 in 22 2/3 innings.
"We wouldn't be afraid to use him," said Scioscia, who expected to have Mosebach available on Friday night against the Twins. "We like Mose. He's got a power arm. He's been developing a nice slider, which has been getting better and better. It's been a difference-maker for him.
"The Phillies took a look at him and thought he wasn't quite ready. He's made some adjustments with his delivery, his grip, and is trying to find a consistent breaking ball. He'll be [in the] 92 to 97 [mph range], and if there's one number, he'll probably pitch at 94."
Mosebach, 24, is 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, a native of West Palm Beach, Fla. He was a ninth-round pick by the Angels in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Hillsborough (Fla.) Community College.
Mosebach spent the entire 2008 season at Arkansas, the Angels' Double-A affiliate, and was dominant there (2-0, 0.34 ERA in 19 games) before getting promoted to Salt Lake this season.
