Infielder Brignac to be optioned to Triple-A Durham
ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays will add some depth to their bullpen on Wednesday, when they activate right-hander Chad Bradford from the 15-day disabled list. The club will option infielder Reid Brignac to Triple-A Durham.
Bradford has been out of Major League action since July 22. But before Tuesday's game, he threw 15-20 pitches in a simulated game in which manager Joe Maddon said his ball was "very much alive."
Bradford pitched three shutout innings for Class A Charlotte while on a rehab assignment. The 34-year-old has given up one run in 4 1/3 innings (2.08 ERA) while missing 75 games because of an elbow injury this season.
Brignac, 23, who started at shortstop in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Orioles, was batting .254 (16-for-63) with two RBIs in 22 games for the Rays this year.
