O's prospect suspended for PED use
Catcher Parra will miss first 50 games of the 2010 season
Orioles catching prospect Freuny Parra received a 50-game suspension Wednesday for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Parra tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance Boldenone, and his suspension will be effective at the start of next season.
Originally a 47th-round pick by the Reds in 2006 First-Year Player Draft, Parra played 12 games for the rookie Gulf Coast League Orioles this summer. While there, the 21-year-old from Connors State College in Oklahoma hit .324 with a .405 on-base percentage.
