Dykstra's championship ring sold

1986 World Series ring auctioned off for more than $56,000

10/02/09 9:27 PM EST

Lenny Dykstra's championship ring from the 1986 World Series was sold at an auction for more than $56,000, the Associated Press reported on Friday.

Dykstra, now 46 and reportedly in serious financial troubles, had 11 items at the auction in Dallas, and they combined to bring in more than $162,000, the AP added.

A collector from Queens, N.Y. -- where Dykstra and the rest of his Mets wrapped up the Series win over the Red Sox -- won the ring with a bid of $56,762.50, Heritage Auctions told the AP.

Dykstra, a three-time All-Star whose last season came with the Phillies in 1996, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July, saying he owed more than $31 million and had only about $50,000 in assets.
