White Sox pick up Garcia's option

Right-hander won three games in nine starts this season

10/06/09 8:21 AM EST

The White Sox exercised their 2010 option on right-hander Freddy Garcia, SI.com reported on Monday, adding that the 34-year-old will make a $1 million base salary, plus a possible $2 million in incentives.

Garcia, who signed a Minor League contract after being released by the Mets in April, spent most of the summer in the Minors working on a comeback from 2008 shoulder surgery before being called up to the Majors on Aug. 18. He went 3-4 with a 4.34 ERA in nine starts for the White Sox.

In his last outing of the season on Saturday, Garcia gave up one run with seven strikeouts in seven-plus innings against the Tigers.

An 11-year veteran, Garcia has a career record of 121-81 to go along with a 4.08 ERA.
