Chicago White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise, who preserved Mark Buehre's perfect game with a spectacular catch in the ninth inning, has declared free agency instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Charlotte, the team announced on Friday.Wise, 31, hit .225 with two homers and 11 RBIs in a career-high 84 games with the White Sox this year. He's best remembered for his ninth-inning catch on July 23 when he pulled a home run back over the wall and held onto the ball with a juggling catch to rob the Rays' Gabe Kapler. Wise entered the game as a defensive replacement in the ninth.
In two seasons with the White Sox, Wise hit .236 with eight homers and 29 RBIs. He's a career .216 hitter in 324 Major League games with Toronto (2000, 2002), Atlanta (2004), Cincinnati (2006-07) and the White Sox (2008-09).
