Steinbrenner: 'Focus remains the same'
Yankees' principal owner thrilled by sweep of Twins in ALDS
MINNEAPOLIS -- From afar, Yankees principal owner George M. Steinbrenner has lauded his club's advancement to the American League Championship Series.
Steinbrenner, who watched New York's three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins from his home in Tampa, Fla., said the following in a statement released on Monday by spokesperson Howard Rubenstein:
"As we move on to the ALCS, our team's focus remains the same," Steinbrenner said. "With the support of the greatest fans in the world, we will continue to march forward as we have done all year."
The Yankees will open the ALCS against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Friday at Yankee Stadium. It is considered possible that Steinbrenner, 79, will make the trip to New York for one of the upcoming ALCS home games.
