Tillman Foundation Benefit slated
Third Annual event slated for Friday, Oct. 23 in Scottsdale
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Arizona Fall League holds its third annual Pat Tillman Foundation Benefit Night on Friday, Oct. 23 at Scottsdale Stadium, when the host Scottsdale Scorpions entertain the Peoria Javelinas at 6:35 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Outfielder Eric Byrnes, the Arizona Diamondbacks' 2009 Roberto Clemente Award nominee who played football against Tillman in high school in Northern California, will be recognized for his fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Tillman Foundation.
Byrnes will be joined in pre-game ceremonies by several Tillman ASU Scholars and Tillman Military Scholars.
An extensive sports memorabilia auction before and during the game highlights the event. The collectibles feature an array of autographed Major League jerseys of current and former players. Autographed baseballs will accompany every silent bid award.
All proceeds from the sports memorabilia auction, plus one-half of the night's gate receipts, will be donated to the Tillman Foundation.
Inspired by the distinguished life and legacy of Pat Tillman -- professional athlete, military hero and a man of strong character and kindness -- the Pat Tillman Foundation seeks to create a community of scholars dedicated to improving their own lives, the lives of their families and their country by creating a spirit of service.
"The Arizona Fall League honors the legacy of an American hero and is proud to support the foundation that bears his name," offered executive director, Steve Cobb.
