Shortstop to be honored at team banquet in January

10/23/09 11:57 AM ET

ARLINGTON -- Shortstop Elvis Andrus has been selected as the Rangers' Rookie of the Year for 2009.

Andrus will receive the award at the 2010 Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Mid-Winter Awards Banquet, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 29, at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel.

Andrus, a leading candidate for the American League Rookie of the Year award, hit .267 with six homers, 40 RBIs and 33 stolen bases in 145 games this past season while fulfilling all expectations as a defensive shortstop.

Tickets for the banquet, which will honor a number of baseball personalities and feature appearances by Texas Rangers past and present, are now on sale at www.texasrangers.com.

Tickets are priced at $60 each, with tables of 10 available for $600. Net proceeds benefit the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The Omni Fort Worth Hotel is located at 1300 Houston St. in downtown Fort Worth.
