World Series Predictions: Game 3
Experts expect Phillies to enjoy return to friendly digs
There is something about the Phillies' home-field advantage that catches everyone's attention.
The two best offenses in their respective leagues during the regular season and the first two rounds of the postseason have been held in check so far in the best-of-seven series, with each team winning one game.
But at some point, you have to think Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard and Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will emerge from their slow World Series starts and runs will come in bunches for both teams.
However, if left-handers Andy Pettitte and Cole Hamels are at the top of their games, the hitters are in for another long night in the City of Brotherly Love.
Howard has two hits and six strikeouts in nine at-bats through the first two games of World Series, and the slugger is just 1-for-9 in his career against Pettitte.
But Howard is not alone in his struggles vs. Pettitte. Teammates Jayson Werth is 1-for-13 with five strikeouts and Jimmy Rollins is 4-for-18 lifetime against the veteran southpaw.
Overall, Philly manager Charlie Manuel has a group of hitters that are batting .222 (22-for-99) in their careers against Pettitte, the all-time MLB leader with 16 postseason wins.
The Bronx Bombers have slightly better resumes against Hamels.
Mark Teixeira is 5-for-17 with two home runs and five RBIs against the Philly lefty, while Derek Jeter (4-for-7), Melky Cabrera (3-for-6) and Johnny Damon (3-for-5) are a combined 10-for-18 with two RBIs.
As for A-Rod, the three-time American League Most Valuable Player is 0-for-8 with six strikeouts in his first World Series and hitless in four trips to the dish with four Ks in his career vs. Hamels.
