Posey's first homer helps Mesa tie

Parmalee, Conger go deep before game called in 11th

10/31/09 2:01 AM ET

Giants catcher Buster Posey hit his first homer of the Arizona Fall League season as Mesa and Scottsdale played to a 5-5 tie after 11 innings on Friday night.

Posey, who was awarded the J.G. Tayor Spink Award earlier in the week as the top Minor Leaguer of 2009, hit a game-tying solo drive in the sixth off Twins southpaw Spencer Steedley. The 22-year-old is batting .227 in Arizona, but has scored six runs over his last three games.

The game, suspended after 11 innings and later ruled a tie, will not be resumed as per the league's 11-inning limit.

Mesa first baseman Chris Parmalee (Twins) launched a three-run drive in the third, giving him an RBI in seven consecutive games, and Angels catcher Hank Conger hit a go-ahead homer in the fifth, his second of the season.

Darin Holcomb (Rockies) drove in two runs for the Scorpions.

Randor Bierd (Red Sox) started for Mesa and allowed four runs on four hits and a pair of walks over 3 2/3 innings. Garrett Parcell (Marlins), Jay Buente (Marlins) and Blake Parker (Cubs) combined on five hitless innings to finish the game.

Former Giants 12th-round pick Joe Martinez started for Scottsdale and was charged with four runs on five hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three and surrendered a home run.

Tony Watson (Pirates) and Michael Schwimer (Phillies) each tossed two hitless frames of relief while Pirates' 2007 first-round pick Danny Moskos held the Solar Sox to a pair of hits over two frames.
