Nationals make front-office moves

Schueler named special advisor to Rizzo; Singer promoted

11/03/09 3:43 PM EST

The Nationals made a couple more front-office moves on Tuesday, when they named Ron Schueler special advisor to general manager Mike Rizzo and promoted Bill Singer to director of professional scouting.

Schueler, who served his previous two seasons as senior advisor of player personnel for the Giants, was GM of the White Sox from 1990-2000. During that time, Chicago compiled a .527 winning percentage and won two division titles. In '00, his final season as GM, Schueler's White Sox were named Organization of the Year by "Baseball America."

Schueler, a 42-year baseball veteran and former pitcher, also served in various special-assistant capacities with the Cubs, Cardinals and Athletics, earning World Series rings with St. Louis ('06) and Oakland ('89).

Singer, who joined the Nats in '06 after a three-year stint with the D-backs as a scout under Rizzo, will be in charge of coordinating, scheduling and administering all Nationals Major League, Minor League and Winter League scouting efforts.

Singer was a two-time All-Star during his pitching career, one that included a pair of 20-win seasons and 118 career victories. He has more than 30 years of professional baseball experience in various capacities.
