Blige to perform Game 6 anthem

Bronx native joins list of Grammy-winning WS performers

11/03/09 6:30 PM EST

Bronx native Mary J. Blige will perform the national anthem prior to Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday night, when the Yankees take another crack at clinching their 27th championship.

Blige lent her voice to the 2008 song, "Just Stand Up," with proceeds benefiting the Stand Up To Cancer program. Major League Baseball and MasterCard are also involved in the program, donating $1,000 for every home run through the end of the postseason. Through Monday's Game 5, that translates to $61,000.

Blige has earned six Grammy Awards and seven multi-platinum records. Her eighth studio CD, "Growing Pains," follows her best-selling anthology, "Reflections."

The Phillies took Game 5 to cut the Yanks' Series lead to 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. Coverage of Game 6 begins on FOX at 7:30 p.m. ET.
