Rockies re-sign Belisle, Flores

Club maintains bullpen depth with one-year deals

11/05/09 2:25 PM EST

DENVER -- The Rockies retained some of the bullpen depth they built in 2009 by re-signing right-hander Matt Belisle and left-hander Randy Flores to one-year contracts. Both were eligible for arbitration.

Both were up and down between the Rockies and Triple-A Colorado Springs, but had key roles at times. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Belisle, 29, signed a non-roster contract last winter, and went 3-1 with a 5.52 ERA in 24 appearances in three Major League stints. His 2-0 record and 1.42 ERA in his final nine regular-season appearances earned him a spot on the postseason roster. Belisle had two scoreless appearances totaling two innings in the National League Division Series, where the Rockies lost to the Phillies, 3-1.

Flores, 34, underwent shoulder surgery at the end of the 2008 season with the Cardinals, and began 2009 at Colorado Springs to regain his form. In two Major League stints, Flores went 0-1 with a 5.24 ERA in 27 games. He rejoined the team when rosters expanded in September and pitched scoreless ball in nine of his final 11 outings.

In other roster news, the club has outrighted infielder Omar Quintanilla -- who cleared waivers and is a member of the Triple-A Colorado Springs roster -- and right-handed pitcher Joel Peralta, who has become a free agent. The Rockies are attempting to sign Peralta to a Minor League contract.

Quintanilla, 28, hit .172 in 58 games, all but five in a reserve role. He has a .220 batting average in 216 games in the Majors, all with the Rockies. Peralta, 33, was 0-3 with a 6.20 ERA in 27 games with the Rockies last season.
