PHOENIX -- D-backs left-hander Doug Davis wasted little time.Davis filed for free agency Thursday, one of 79 players who did on the first day players were eligible to do so.
D-backs infielder Chad Tracy also filed for free agency after the club declined to exercise his 2010 contract option earlier in the day. Tracy instead received a $1 million buyout.
The D-backs explored the possibility of signing Davis to an extension during the season, but the discussions did not go far with the club thinking more along the lines of a one-year deal with an option and Davis looking for a three-year contract.
"I think he's probably done here," D-backs GM Josh Byrnes said at an end-of-the-season session with reporters.
Davis was 28-34 with a 4.22 ERA in 93 starts during his three years in Arizona.
Tracy, who was the team's seventh-round selection in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, hit .280 with 78 home runs and 318 RBI over six seasons for the D-backs. His best year came in 2005 when he hit .308 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs.
