Feldman is Rangers' Pitcher of the Year

Right-hander's 12 victories on road tie Major League lead

11/10/09 4:15 PM EST

Scott Feldman was named the Texas Rangers' Pitcher of the Year for 2009 by the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, it was announced on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old right-hander went 17-8 with a 4.08 ERA in 34 games, 31 of them starts, for the Rangers this season. Despite not joining the rotation until the end of April, he tied for fourth in the American League in wins, including a club-record 12 victories on the road, which tied for the Major League lead.

Feldman, who struck out 113 batters in 189 2/3 innings of work while walking 65, was originally drafted by the team in the 30th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft. Working primarily in relief in his first five pro seasons, he shifted to a starting role in 2008.

Feldman will be one of several Rangers receiving awards at the 2010 Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Mid-Winter Awards Banquet, which is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29, at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel.

Among the other honorees that night will be shortstop Elvis Andrus, who was named the team's Rookie of the Year. Additional award recipients, including Player of the Year, will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Tickets for the banquet cost $60 and tables of 10 are available for $600, with net proceeds benefiting the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The Omni Fort Worth Hotel is located at 1300 Houston St. For more information, please contact the Rangers at 972-RANGERS.
