Kuhl named chairman; Carpino takes over as president

ANAHEIM -- The Angels' busy offseason continued on Saturday with upper-management moves.Promoted from club president to chairman was Dennis Kuhl, while John Carpino was elevated from senior vice president of sales and marketing to club president.
Kuhl will be in charge of administration of day-to-day operations, with a focus on civic affairs and community outreach. Carpino oversees business, sales, marketing and communications. General manager Tony Reagins, who was recently handed a long-term contract extension, is in charge of baseball operations.
Carpino becomes the seventh president in club history in succeeding Kuhl, who has had the role since Nov. 10, 2003.
A native of Boonton, N.J., with an extensive background in the business world, Kuhl received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Arizona in 1970 after attending Chamberlayne Junior College in Boston.
Kuhl resides in Newport Beach, Calif., and is involved in various charitable organizations, including president of the "Light the Night" event which supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He is a founding member of The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation/Lott Trophy. He also serves on the board of governors at Chapman University, board of directors for the Los Angeles Sports Council and board of directors of the Newport Sports Museum.
Carpino has spent six seasons with the Angels as senior VP in sales and marketing after his appointment on Dec. 1, 2003. The club has experienced unprecedented financial growth in the sponsorship, marketing and ticketing divisions, all areas he will continue to oversee.
Carpino began his professional career in the billboard industry in 1982, joining Angels owner Arte Moreno at Outdoor System, (a billboard company which would later become Viacom Outdoor in 2000 and CBS Outdoor in 2005). He spent 18 years in Phoenix and Los Angeles (1995-2003) markets.
A Chicago native, Carpino is a 1982 graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in business administration. He serves on the executive board for the Orange County United Way. John and wife, Elizabeth, have three children and reside in Laguna Beach, Calif.
