NEW YORK -- After being outrighted to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre on Wednesday by the Yankees, Shelley Duncan has elected to become a free agent.Duncan, 30, served two stints with New York this year, batting .200 (3-for-15) with one RBI in 11 games. He spent the majority of the season at Triple-A, where he was named the International League MVP after pacing the circuit in runs (85), home runs (30) and RBIs (99).
A second-round selection of the Yankees in 2001, Duncan burst on the scene as an unexpected power threat late in 2007, slugging seven home runs in 74 at-bats. But he played sparingly in '08, hitting .175 in 23 big league games during a campaign that was slowed by a separated shoulder.
