Marlins announce non-roster invites

Stanton, Dominguez top list, will participate in Spring Training

MIAMI -- Some of the Marlins' top prospects will get a taste of what being in the big leagues is all about.

The club on Monday announced it has extended Spring Training invitations to 22-non rostered players. The list includes top prospect Mike Stanton and former first-round Draft pick Matt Dominguez.

Dominguez and Stanton were both in big league camp a year ago, before opening the season at Class A Jupiter.

Stanton, a power-hitting outfielder who is drawing comparisons to Dave Winfield, is a 20-year-old slugger. Recently, he was tabbed by MLB.com as the third best overall prospect in Major League Baseball.

Stanton was a second round pick in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, the year Dominguez was picked in the first round. Dominguez is a third baseman who has been compared to Mike Lowell.

Both players are 20 years old, and they are expected to open the season at Double-A Jacksonville.

Marlins pitchers and catchers begin workouts at Spring Training on Feb. 20 at the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Fla.

Here are the 22 non-roster invitees: Pitchers Clay Hensley, Dan Jennings, Seth McClung, Kasey Olenberger, Matt Peterson, Chris Schroder, Scott Strickland, Derrick Turnbow, Jose Veras and Jay Voss. Catchers Brad Davis, Chris Hatcher, Vinny Rottino. Infielders Brian Barden, Dominguez, Hector Luna, Ozzie Martinez, Logan Morrison, Donnie Murphy and Danny Richar. Outfielders Bryan Petersen and Stanton.
