Pat Murray and Geancarlo Mendez recorded run-scoring hits in the seventh inning to help lift the Phillies to a 6-3 win over the Rays in Game 2 of the Gulf Coast League championship series on Wednesday in Clearwater.
With the game tied at 3, Murray's two-out single put the Phillies on top, 4-3. Following a walk, Mendez tripled in two runs. Murray, Mendez, Matt Payton, Marlon Mitchell and Stephen Malcolm all had two hits.
Right-hander Marshall Schuler, who pitched three scoreless relief innings starting in the sixth, was the winner. Right-hander Juary Gomez issued a walk and a single with one out in the ninth before striking out the last two hitters for his second save.
The decisive game in the best-of-three series will be played noon ET on Thursday at Bright House Field.
