The Cubs added some catching depth on Monday, claiming Max Ramirez off waivers from the Red Sox.
Ramirez, who is out of Minor League options, is on the move again after he was just claimed by the Red Sox off waivers from the Rangers on Jan. 5.
The Venezuelan backstop split last season between Texas and Triple-A Oklahoma City. Ramirez, 26, batted .217 with two homers in 69 at-bats in the Majors. With Oklahoma City, he batted .286 with three homers and 29 RBIs in 56 games.
Ramirez, who played in the 2007 Futures Game, owns a .217 career average in 45 Major League games in 2008 and '10 with Texas. He was originally signed in 2002 as a free agent by the Braves.
