OAKLAND -- Yankees catcher Russell Martin was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Athletics with soreness in his big left toe.
Martin fouled a ball off his foot in Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Mariners at Safeco Field and did not play on Sunday, given the day game after a night game off.
Martin was listed in New York's original lineup on Monday, but manager Joe Girardi said that he would have to check with Martin after batting practice to make sure that he would still be available.
Francisco Cervelli replaced Martin behind the plate, batting ninth. Martin had been batting sixth in the original order.
