ATLANTA -- Mike Cameron, hampered by a tight right hamstring, made a pinch-hit appearance on Monday night and struck out.

The Marlins went on to beat the Braves, 5-4, in 12 innings at Turner Field.

As it turned out, Cameron's lone at-bat was his final moment in a Marlins uniform.

After the game, the club announced that it had released the 17-year veteran center fielder.

The Marlins are dealing with a number of outfield ailments. Left fielder Logan Morrison returned to South Florida to get an MRI exam on a bruised right knee, and he isn't expected to play until Friday, at the earliest.

Mike Stanton, who had the game-winning, pinch-hit RBI single in the 12th inning on Monday, is not ready to play on a daily basis in right field. Stanton has also been bothered by a tight right hamstring.

In addition to the hamstring injury, Cameron has also dealt with a sprained left wrist and sore knees.

With a limited number of healthy outfielders, the Marlins may be looking to call up either Chris Coghlan, who has been at Triple-A New Orleans, or reinstate Scott Cousins, who is on the 60-day disabled list with a back injury.

The 38-year-old Cameron has hinted that he may retire after the season.

A former Gold Glove Award-winning outfielder, Cameron broke in with the White Sox in 1995, and he opened this year with the Red Sox before being traded to the Marlins on July 5 for future considerations.

In 44 games with Florida, Cameron hit .239 with six homers and 18 RBIs. He is a career .249 hitter with 278 homers and 968 RBIs.
