MILWAUKEE -- It's official, again: The Brewers are champions of the National League Central. The club on Monday commemorated its first division crown in 29 years by installing a 12-foot by 15-foot pennant on the left-field fascia inside Miller Park. It hangs alongside pennants for the club's other postseason teams in 1981, '82 and 2008. "It's just a great way to reflect on a wonderful season of memories," said Teddy Werner, Brewers senior director of business operations. "And it's great for the fans going forward that they can look up and do the same thing. ... As you can see, there's a lot of room up there, so hopefully we'll be putting up another one a year from now." A crew from Milwaukee's Poblocki Sign Company performed the installation on Monday morning, precisely four weeks before Brewers pitchers and catchers were to take part in their first formal Spring Training workout on Feb. 18. The Brewers have never repeated as division champs. They won the second half in the American League East during the strike-shortened 1981 season before winning the division outright in 1982. In 2008, the Brewers returned to the postseason by winning the NL Wild Card.
