Giants add three non-roster camp invitees
Christian, Ortiz, Blackley join fold as Spring Training looms
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants welcomed back three familiar faces in a flurry of low-profile moves Wednesday, three days before pitchers and catchers are due to report to Spring Training.Outfielder Justin Christian cleared release waivers, re-signed with San Francisco and received a non-roster invitation to camp. Christian, who hit .255 (12-for-47) in 18 games for the Giants in September, was designated for assignment on Feb. 8 to clear 40-man roster space. The Giants also signed Major League veteran Ramon Ortiz to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league camp. Ortiz, who was in camp with the Giants in 2009, owns a 86-84 record with a 4.93 ERA in 11 seasons, including 1-2, 4.86 ERA in 22 appearances for the Chicago Cubs last year. Itinerant left-hander Travis Blackley signed a Minor League deal to begin his second stint in the Giants system. Blackley, a native of Australia who has pitched in six organizations, compiled a 7.27 ERA without a decision in two late-season starts with San Francisco in 2007.
