MLB players, country stars team up for RBI
Arroyo, Gammons, Nichols, Thomas on bill for Woodjock 2012
Current and former Major League stars will once again join a few country music stars on stage at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in Mesa, Ariz., to raise money for the Arizona RBI program, which is part of the national MLB Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program.
Doors will open for Woodjock 2012 beginning at 7 p.m. MST for the March 15 show, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are already available at Woodjock.com/tickets. Fans listening to KNIX 102.5 and XTRA Sports 910 also will be able to win various ticket packages to see event for free.
All net proceeds from the event will be distributed to the Arizona RBI program, which currently serves more than 2,000 boys and girls ages 4-18.
The headliner for Woodjock 2012 is Joe Nichols, a four-time Grammy nominated recording artist with multiple platinum and gold albums and singles including "Brokenheartsville" and "Gimme That Girl."
Fellow country artist Keni Thomas also will be on stage. Thomas has toured the country opening for artists such as Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry and Wynonna.
D-backs third-base coach Matt Williams will serve as master of ceremonies for the event, which will include performances by Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo, former Indians first baseman Ben Broussard, Padres reliever Huston Street and MLB.com columnist Peter Gammons. More performances by current and former players will be announced at later dates.
Arroyo, Broussard and Gammons have all recorded albums. Arroyo released his debut album, "Covering the Bases," in 2005, while Broussard has released two albums and has had his songs featured on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," CBS' "Cold Case" and "The Good Wife," and on FOX's "Bones" and "Fringe." Gammons is active in the indie rock scene in his hometown of Boston and released his debut album, "Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old," in '06.
