MLB To Host Prospect Showcase In Puerto Rico
Carlos Baerga to Address Players During Orientation on June 11th
Major League Baseball will host a showcase featuring Puerto Rican players who were not selected in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday, June 12th and Wednesday, June 13th. The showcase will be held at Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium in Carolina, Puerto Rico.
Participating players also will take part in an orientation designed to educate players and their families about the showcase and the signing process on Monday, June 11th. Fourteen-year Major League infielder and three-time All-Star Carlos Baerga, a native of Puerto Rico, will be on hand to address the players.
The showcase, which will resemble prospect showcases previously held in the Dominican Republic, will provide undrafted, unsigned players with additional exposure before MLB scouts and coaches. The prospects will participate in a series of professional-style workouts, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on June 12th, to be followed by two games on June 13th, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Said Kim Ng, MLB’s Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations: “By coordinating scouting opportunities for these aspiring players, we hope to provide additional avenues for young Puerto Rican players who wish to play professionally.”
