Cubs recall LHP Jeff Believeau from Triple-A Iowa, Option RHP Rafael Dolis to Iowa
The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Iowa and optioned right-handed pitcher Rafael Dolis to Iowa.
Beliveau, who will wear uniform number 16, will be available for today’s 1:15 p.m. CT game in St. Louis.
The 25-year-old Beliveau reaches the major leagues after beginning the 2011 campaign with Single-A Daytona. He was named the 2011 Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year by the organization after he combined to go 6-2 with five saves and a 1.57 ERA (13 ER/74.1 IP) in 53 relief appearances between Single-A Daytona and Double-A Tennessee. He combined to strike out 89 batters and issue just 19 walks in 74.1 innings of work.
Beliveau is 4-5 with a 4.05 ERA (18 ER/40.0 IP) in 34 relief appearances for Triple-A Iowa this season. He has struck out 47 in 40.0 innings, an average of 10.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched, while walking just 17. Taking away his July 2 relief appearance in Nashville, in which he allowed four runs in 0.1 innings pitched, he has recorded a 3.18 ERA (14 ER/39.2 IP) in his 33 other games pitched this season.
Selected by Chicago in the 18th round of the 2008 Draft, Beliveau has compiled a 21-14 career minor league record with 10 saves and a 2.87 ERA (99 ER/310.2 IP) in 176 games, all but 14 of those in relief. He has averaged 11.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings of work, recording 402 strikeouts in 310.2 innings pitched, while walking just 139 batters.
Dolis, 24, is 2-4 with a 6.44 ERA (21 ER/29.1 IP) in 26 relief appearances spanning two stints for Chicago this season. He is 0-1 with three saves and a 2.92 ERA (4 ER/12.1 IP) in 11 games with Iowa this year.
