Twins Press Release
Twins launch "At the Plate," an interactive real-time game available at Target Field
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Twins, in partnership with MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), today announced the launch of an innovative new mobile game available only at Target Field. Presented by Twins' sponsor, CenturyLink, "At the Plate" is an interactive game that allows fans to predict which events will happen when the Twins are batting.
"This new game is really a way for fans of all interest levels to interact with the baseball game at a whole new level," said John Avenson, vice president of technology, Minnesota Twins. "Rather than detract from the game at hand, it actually enhances it and engages fans in a way that has never been done before."
Developed by Sportsdigita, a Minneapolis-based digital sports marketing agency, in coordination with MLBAM, "At the Plate" is accessible when at Target Field through the MLB.com At the Ballpark application. Currently "At the Plate" is available to fans with iOS devices.
During the game, fans are awarded points for correctly picking the events that occurred in the bottom of the inning while the Twins were "At the Plate." The game is played by seating section with the section that amasses the most collective points being the winner. Each fan holding a game ticket in the winning section will be eligible for a special prize.
With the launch, the Twins capitalize on the ever-growing mobile technology industry and provide opportunity for additional business solutions by including the game as new sponsorship inventory.
"Digital is truly the name of the game right now," stated Angelina Lawton, president of Sportsdigita. "Sports franchises, now more than ever, are incorporating these platforms into their business strategy."
"As Target Field was built, we all envisioned the state-of-the-art fan experience would continue to advance with new technologies and applications," said Tyler Middleton, vice president and general manager, CenturyLink Mpls-St. Paul. "CenturyLink is proud last season's Twins Wi-Fi launch is helping to power this seasons "At the Plate" application, giving fans a next generation sports experience."
