DENVER -- With Matt Kemp out of the Dodgers' lineup Wednesday, manager Don Mattingly moved Adrian Gonzalez up to Kemp's No. 3 spot in the batting order with Hanley Ramirez batting fourth.
A mild surprise was the presence of Luis Cruz batting fifth ahead of Andre Ethier. Mattingly explained the decision as a counter move to Colorado starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz.
"He's really tough on lefties," Mattingly said. "I wanted to spread Andre and Adrian with a right-hander between them."
Left-handers entered Wednesday batting .115 against Pomeranz, while right-handers were batting .290.
Cuban Puig among LA prospects headed to AFL
DENVER -- Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig heads a list of seven Dodgers named to participate in the upcoming Arizona Fall League, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary season.
Puig, an outfielder who signed last month for a $42 million bonus, was recently promoted from rookie ball to Class A Rancho Cucamonga, where he's hitting .386 (17-for-44) with a homer and four RBIs in 12 games.
Dodgers farmhands joining Puig on the Mesa Solar Sox roster are: pitchers Eric Eadington, Red Patterson and Steven Rodriguez; catcher Gorman Erickson; infielder Rafael Ynoa; and outfielder Joc Pederson.
Pederson (No. 2) and Erickson (No. 15) rank among the Dodgers' top prospects.
The Dodgers also have an open pitcher spot to fill. In addition, Rancho Cucamonga pitching coach Matt Herges will be the pitching coach for Mesa.
