Red Sox Press Release
Red Sox to celebrate "Women and Baseball" throughout the month of May
"Moms Run the Bases" on Mother's Day, May 12
BOSTON, MA -- The Red Sox will celebrate "Women and Baseball" throughout the month of May, including Mother's Day, when "Moms Run the Bases," together with their children. The club will also shine the spotlight on women who work in the game, who play the game, and who, as fans, simply love the game.
On Mother's Day Weekend, May 11 and 12, Fenway Park Tours will be free for women. The tours will highlight the contributions of women in Red Sox history.
Ceremonies before and during many of the 13 home games will pay tribute to women of all ages and with varied experiences. Guests range from the Girls Scouts of Massachusetts to 102-year-old Lillian Auerbach, an ardent Red Sox fan.
Girls softball teams will be in attendance, as will students of the all-girls Windsor and Dana Hall Schools. The club will also pay tribute to members of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
On May 9 and 10, the Red Sox Wives will conduct a mystery grab bag fundraiser supporting the One Fund. Fans who donate $40 will have a chance to "grab" an autographed baseball.
On May 11, Rhode Island Day, the club will welcome Olivia Culpo, Miss Rhode Island.
Games on Mother's Day Weekend, May 11 and 12, start at 1:35 p.m. On Mother's Day, women will also receive a complimentary chair massage, courtesy of Equinox Fitness, in the Champions Club located behind right field, presented by Alex and Ani.
Also in May, the Red Sox will conduct a seminar to discuss topics pertinent to women working in baseball or sports.
The club will also announce in May events that will take place later in the season, such as a "Baseball 101" clinic and a salute to the pioneering women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, whose story was depicted in Hollywood's "A League of Their Own."
Using social media, fans can win prizes by submitting photographs of female fans enjoying a Red Sox game either at home or at Fenway Park. Pictures submitted to Instagram using the hashtag #RedSoxWomen will be entered to win Red Sox tickets, recognition on the Fenway Park video board, or an interview on the New England Sports Network (NESN).
The Red Sox play each day this week, starting tonight, through Mother's Day. Visiting Fenway Park are the Minnesota Twins through Thursday, and the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays starting Friday. The Red Sox also play home Memorial Day Weekend in a homestand that starts Thursday, May 23, and continues each day through Tuesday, May 28. Those games are against the Cleveland Indians (May 23-26) and the National League Philadelphia Phillies (May 27-28).
All weeknight games start at 7:10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday home games in May start at 1:35 p.m.
