Padres lose challenge on play at first base
Ruling stands on Crawford's infield single for Giants in seventh inning
SAN FRANCISCO -- Padres manager Bud Black unsuccessfully tried to get a call overturned on Tuesday night in a game against the Giants at AT&T Park.
With one out in the seventh inning and the Padres leading, 6-2, Brandon Crawford of the Giants rolled a ground ball to first baseman Jake Goebbert.
Goebbert flipped the ball high to pitcher Alex Torres, who was covering first base on the play. Crawford was ruled safe by first-base umpire Adam Hamari, who signaled that Torres didn't touch the bag.
Black challenged the ruling but the call stood, as Crawford was awarded a single. The Giants failed to take advantage of it, though.
