Twins lose challenge on stolen-base attempt
Martin's steal confirmed, leading to Rangers scoring first run of game
MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire unsuccessfully challenged a play at second base in the seventh inning of Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
Leonys Martin singled off reliever Jared Burton with one out and stole second base to put a runner in scoring position in a scoreless game. Second-base umpire Mike DiMuro ruled Martin safe at second base, but Gardenhire asked for the play to be reviewed. After a review that lasted 51 seconds, the call was confirmed.
It turned out to be key as Luis Sardinas dropped in a two-out RBI single to score Martin to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
It was the 11th challenge issued by Gardenhire, and he's had four calls overturned this season.
